Brace yourself. Because we're about to dig deep. This is an all-inclusive list of essential kitchen tools. This list is ideal for a home cook or anyone who enjoys working in the kitchen. Let's get started and learn about the basic kitchen utensil items that everyone needs.

Basic Kitchen Essentials

1) Non-Stick Pan

if you're truly starting from scratch the first thing you'll need is a nonstick pan. These pans are low-maintenance to clean and quite forgiving for a novice cook, as long as you take great care of them (no metal tools or scrubbers!). They're also the best pan for cooking eggs, as a cast-iron and stainless steel skillet tend to stick.

2) Saucepan

When you need to cook something with liquids, such as boiling pasta and vegetables or simmering sauces and beans, a saucepan is ideal. Look for a 4-quart saucepan. A 4-quart saucepan is simple to use and manage, and it's perfect for cooking for a larger crowd.

3) Chef's Knife

A chef's best friend is a good knife. This is one of the few purchases you'll be glad you made. Choose a knife that you are most comfortable with. It should feel balanced in your hand, simple to grasp and handle, not too heavy, but not flimsy. Take good care of it because you'll be using it a lot.

4) Knife Sharpener

You'll need to keep your knife sharp once you've found the right one (a dull knife puts you and the food you're slicing in danger).  A knife sharpener is a must-have in your kitchen.  There's no need to hire a sharpening service or spend a lot of money on a fancy electric gadget when you have a knife sharpener.

5) Cutting Boards

A good cutting board is one of the most essential kitchen tools you'll need. It will be used every time you cook like your chef's knife, so choose one that is both robust and well-designed.

Choose a cutting board that can be washed in the dishwasher and is made of odor-resistant polypropylene to ensure that it lasts a long time. You can also consider getting a wooden cutting board. A wooden cutting board will keep your knife from quickly dulling while also making cleanup easy.

6) Metal Spatula

For flipping, tossing, and serving many kinds of foods, a robust metal (or high-quality plastic) spatula is essential. With a metal spatula, you can easily achieve puffy pancakes, toss roast veggies, and so on.

7) Silicone Spatula

Scraping out the food processor or the sides of the mixing bowl, swirling frosting onto a cake, or folding egg whites into cake batter all require a silicone spatula. If you make a lot of garlicky dishes, you might want to have a second spatula for sweet baking.

8) Sheet Pan

The more time you spend in the kitchen, the more you realize how important sheet pans are. Sheet pans are required for baking cookies as well as roasting veggies. It's what you use to place your tuna melt on when you want to broil it. And if the supper you planned turns out to be a fiasco, you'll need this pan to cook frozen goods like french fries into an edible state.

9) Measuring Spoons

Every cook needs measuring spoons. Make sure you buy measuring spoons that are long enough (and narrow enough) to fit inside jars while also being robust enough not to bend or warp. We recommend getting the spoons with half-sphere ends, as they'll work well for straight measurements as well as cookie dough balls or anything else round.

10) Measuring Cups

If you're a baker, measuring cups are essential, but they're also useful in regular cooking. For measuring dried components and little amounts of liquid, consider investing in a four-piece kit. For measuring liquids, you should buy a 1-quart glass measuring cup. This will save time and effort, and you'll be able to make sauces and vinaigrettes from inside and then pour them into whatever you're cooking.

11) Mixing Bowls

When preparing a meal, it's usually handy to have a mixing bowl on hand in case you need to marinate meat, beat eggs, or set away some prepared vegetables. If you're having friends or parents around for dinner and want to impress them with your culinary skills, mixing bowls can double as serving bowls.

12) Slow Cooker

A slow cooker, often known as a Crock-Pot, is the ideal appliance for busy families. You can quickly throw ingredients into the cooker before leaving for work, and supper will be ready when you return. Make sure you get a size that will serve your entire family.

13) Dutch Oven

A Dutch oven may be used to cook anything from a large batch of soup to a loaf of no-knead bread to braised chicken legs. There are several cast-iron enameled casseroles available from a variety of manufacturers (and at all different price points). Make sure to order a 7-quart dutch oven. The 7-quart size is large enough to handle most duties while taking up little room in your kitchen.

14) Can Opener

You don't want to forget a can opener! Canned beans and veggies are fantastic pantry staples for quick cooking. A can opener is necessary for a lot of products that come in cans, such as coconut milk, curry paste, fruits, crushed tomatoes, and so on.

15) Bread Knife

Slicing through a loaf of bread without crushing or ripping it into untidy bits is easy with a large serrated knife. The secret to achieving the perfect tomato slice is to use one of these. If you use a straight blade knife to cut your bread and tomatoes, you'll likely smush them unless you're a skilled knife-wielder who is dedicated to keeping his knives sharp.

16) Whisk

Metal whisks come in a lot of shapes and sizes. Choose a whisk with a medium-sized handle that fits comfortably in your hand. It can be used to combine dry ingredients before baking, stir eggs in a frittata, or emulsify a vinaigrette. You'll also need a flat whisk.

17) Slotted Spoon

A perforated (or slotted) spoon, whether wooden or metal, works as a little strainer, separating solids from liquids—think of lifting potatoes or small pasta noodles from boiling water. It is perfect for high heat cooking.

18) Tongs

You know those moments when you're cooking and you wish you could just use your hands, but you know that doing so might result in a bad burn, such as when you're removing long spaghetti from boiling water or turning chicken breasts in the oven? Tongs are useful in this situation. Consider these to be your best friend when handling hot food.

19) Kitchen Shears

This is a very basic but very useful tool. You'll use them every day to open packets, clip herb stems, and do other things. You can use them to cut up a whole chicken or trim the crust off a pie every now and again. So that gunk doesn't build up in the hinge, look for a pair that can be dismantled for cleaning.

20) Peeler

Y-peelers are a must-have in your kitchen. If you've ever witnessed a line chef peel hundreds of potatoes or carrots, you'll realize that a Y-peeler is substantially faster than a swivel peeler. They're easier to handle, and they're so inexpensive that if one becomes dull, you can simply replace them.

21) Fine-Mesh Sieve

You can buy a sieve at a restaurant supply store or a dollar store. A sieve with a diameter of about 6" will suffice. It can be used as a spider to scoop out blanched vegetables, a pasta colander, and a drain for stocks and sauces. It also makes rinsing grains a lot easier.

22) Immersion Blender

With the touch of a button, this handheld instrument blends soups, smoothies, and pestos with ease. They're a lot easier to use than a regular blender, and they take up a lot less room as well.

23) Colander

A heavy-duty colander is required in every kitchen for draining boiled pasta and vegetables. It can also be used to drain canned beans and just-washed vegetables.

24) Fish Turner

Although it is promoted as a fish-turner, it can be used for a variety of activities. Flipping burgers, seafood, and even pancakes is a breeze with this tool's wider base. The narrow edge makes it simple to slide beneath the dishes you're flipping, and the slots help to drain any grease.

25) Ladle

Unless you only consume solid food, you'll need a ladle to get any liquid-based meal from the pot to your bowl, and then to your mouth. You'll immediately discover how important it is if you try serving soup without one.

26) Wood Utensils

Wooden spoons will last a lifetime and are gentle on your non-stick cooking surfaces. Just make sure that you don't put them in the dishwasher. Wooden spoons can help you toss around whatever you're throwing around in a pan, and they can also be used to serve once dinner is ready.

27) Timer

When it comes to cooking, timing is everything! It's critical to maintain track of individual cooking times if you're preparing many dishes at once. If you don't want to buy a timer, you can use your microwave to set one (or phone).

28) Salad Spinner

A salad spinner is your greatest buddy when it comes to eating a fresh salad. You'll need to dry your greens to keep them from becoming mushy, and "spinning" them is by far the quickest way to do it.

29) Citrus Juicer

Kitchen tasks that appear to be simple can occasionally cause significantly more trouble than they should. Juicing a lemon is one of them.

It's difficult to whip up a quick dish when your hands get stained with juice and the seeds frequently fall into your food. A good citrus juicer will take care of everything.

30) Paring Knife

A paring knife is a short-bladed kitchen knife that can be used for a variety of activities. It can peel and chop, and the little tip is perfect for intricate jobs like coring strawberries.

Summary

Stocking up your kitchen with the most basic tools shouldn't be difficult. You can end up with a fully equipped kitchen that will last a lifetime (without costing you an arm and a leg!) by choosing only high-quality multi-purpose goods. If you find our post useful, be sure to share it with your friends.
